Job description: Tour guide

NYC H2O is seeking guides to lead tours for school groups at historic reservoirs in NYC Parks, including the Central Park Reservoir, Ridgewood Reservoir in Brooklyn, the Jerome Park Reservoir in the Bronx, and Silver Lake in Staten Island.

Tour guides receive a $1,000 stipend for completing the following program.

  • Attending five training sessions. (There will be eight training sessions offered all together.)
  • Apprenticing on four tours with an experienced guide.
  • Developing their own tour and script for two reservoirs of their choice.
  • Leading six tours in total, during the fall 2014 and spring 2015 seasons.

Tours last approximately two hours and take place from 10am – noon Monday thru Friday. Our fall tour season last from September 15 – November 14. Training sessions will begin September 2.

Applicants should be comfortable leading school groups of grades 2 – 12, have an interest in NYC history and geography and like to teach outdoors.

NYC H2O is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides educational programs about New York City’s water system and ecology to school groups and the public.
